The Villa Park Seed Library is a partnership of the community, the library, and the Seed Savers Exchange to strengthen biodiversity in our community and encourage the discussion of local food systems and sharing of resources. Patrons can borrow heirloom and open pollinated seeds to grow in their gardens and are encouraged to return seeds in the fall. Masses of purple flower spikes atop lush deep green foliage. Leaves emit a potent licorice odor when crushed and can be used as a flavoring for cooking and for tea. Makes an excellent cut flower. Plants grow 1-3' tall. Acts as a biennial and self-sows readily on open ground. Hardy to zone 4.
