Description
On a foggy night, a stranded man named Michael Starkwedder enters an isolated house and finds the body of a dead man slumped in a chair. A woman standing over the corpse, gun in hand, says her name is Laura Warwick and confesses to the murder of her husband--the dead man. As she explains that he was an abusive drinker, Michael decides not to turn her in to the police, and the two come up with a cover-up story to protect Laura. They choose an enemy from the past, a man named MacGreggor whose son was run over by Richard Warwick several years ago. Slipping a paper in Richard's pocket with the date of the accident, saying "Paid in full", they then stage the murder so it appears to have been recent. The police are called and begin to investigate. When it is revealed that MacGreggor is dead, suspicions are shifted and the identities of everyone involved come into question.
