A documentary film about the life of and artistic works from Joseph Beuys, a 20th century German sculptor and performance artist. The film includes interviews and comments from archival sources with the artist as well as comments from Caroline Tisdall, Rhea Thönges-Stringaris, Franz Josef von der Grinten, Johannes Stüttgen, and Klaus Staeck.

Beuys. Der Mann mit dem Hut, dem Filz und der Fettecke. 30 Jahre nach seinem Tod erscheint er uns als Visionär, der seiner Zeit voraus war. Geduldig versuchte er uns schon damals zu erklären, dass "Geld keine Ware sein darf". Er wusste, dass der Geldhandel die Demokratie unterwandern würde. Doch mehr als das. Beuys boxt, parliert, doziert und erklärt dem toten Hasen die Kunst. "Wollen Sie eine Revolution ohne Lachen machen?" fragt er grinsend. Sein erweiterter Kunstbegriff führte ihn mitten in den Kern auch heute relevanter gesellschaftlicher Debatten. Beuys," the man with the hat", "the felt" and the "fat corner". Thirty years after his death, he appears to us as a visionary, who was ahead of his time. Patiently he already tried to explain that "Money should not be a commodity." Beuys' boxes, parodies, lectures, and explainations of art. "Will you make a revolutions withouth laughter?", he asked - and laughed.
